Having an underwater torch (or dive light) is an indispensable piece of diving equipment. Most divers only carry a torch for night dives or cave diving. As you dive down, the colors fade. This is because the sun's rays don't penetrate the depths. So you can use a torch to illuminate objects and restore their colors. This is illustrated in the image above, which shows two lion-fish.
The question "why use a scuba torch?" may seem strange. But for my part, I take my scuba torch on almost every dive, not just night dives.
So why use a dive torch for scuba diving? Dive torches aren't just used for night dives, they're also used to illuminate wrecks, crevices and caves, and are also used as a signaling device. Diving torches transform what may look like a brown landscape into a colorful image, as colors are suppressed by the depth of the water. The deeper you go, the more the colors disappear.
